Boom installation
It is composed of boom, lifting column (or lifting mast), rigging
and winch (or crane). The boom device is the traditional lifting
equipment on the ship. Although there are many ropes and
troublesome operation, it has been widely used because of its
simple structure, easy manufacture and low cost.
Single lever operation and double lever operation
Loading and unloading cargo with a boom device, there are two modes
of single-rod operation and double-rod operation. Single-rod
operation is to use a boom to load and unload cargo. After the boom
lifts the cargo, pull the guy rope to make the cargo swing outboard
or the cargo hatch together with the boom, then put down the cargo,
and then turn the boom back to the original position. bit, so back
and forth. When loading and unloading, the suspension rod must be
swung with a drag cable every time, so the efficiency is low and
the labor intensity is high. Two booms are used for double-rod
operation, one is placed in the sky above the cargo hatch, and the
other is extended outboard, and the two booms are fixed on a
certain working position with a lanyard. The hoisting ropes of the
two suspenders are connected together on a suspension hook. As long
as two cargo cables are collected and released separately, the
goods can be unloaded from the ship to the dock, or loaded from the
dock to the ship. The loading and unloading efficiency of the
double-lever operation is higher than that of the single-lever
operation, and the labor intensity is also lighter.
Double Jacks Boom Mount and Ebel Boom Mount
Improved boom installations came later. The double jacking rope
boom installation is improved from the single rod operation boom
installation, in which there are only lifting ropes and two sets of
left and right separated jacking ropes. The boom is controlled by
one lifting winch and two jacking winches, which is easy to operate
and has high loading and unloading efficiency. The Ebel boom rig is
a modification of the twin-rod operated boom rig which includes a
cargo winch, jack and drag winches. The boom can be quickly placed
in any position with the help of a winch. At the same time, it can
also lift and drop goods at fixed points within the working radius
of the boom to improve loading and unloading efficiency. This is an
important step forward towards fully automated cargo handling.
